Patch 15 September 2026 update
Updated 2026-09-16

Mistfall Hunter Death: Lose, Keep, Revive

Three ways to die and only two are recoverable. Which items survive each, how Soul Form and teammate revives actually work, and the one failure nobody documents.

The short answer

Monsters and the mist take nothing permanently. Players take everything.

You only lose your gear in Mistfall Hunter when another Gyldhunter kills you. Die to a monster or the mist and Soul Form puts you back beside your body to pick it up.

  • Recoverable

Killed by a monster or the mist

  • Permanent

    Killed by another player

  • Kept either way

    Anything in the safe pouch

What you lose depends on what killed you

One question decides the whole outcome. Two of the three answers cost you nothing permanent.

What killed you?

A monster

The Gyldenmist or gas

Another player

Recoverable

  1. 01Enter Soul Form
  2. 02Respawn near where you fell
  3. 03Return to your body and interact
  4. 04Revive, run intact

Do not disconnect. A monster death is a setback, not an ending — players who quit out are throwing away a run they could still have finished.

No recovery

That recovery is not available. This is the true loss threat.

Regardless of which branch you took

Items in the safe pouch survive regardless

Once the item that justified the run is in the pouch, the rest of your bag is upside rather than something to defend.

  • Run over

Summarises “The rule depends on what killed you” below. Teammate revives and the second life are deliberately not drawn here — the prose marks them demo-era and unconfirmed in the live build, and a solid branch would quietly promote them to certainty.

§01

The rule depends on what killed you

This is the mechanic most coverage of the game gets wrong, and it changes how you should play. Elimination by a monster, or by the mist itself, is recoverable. Elimination by another Gyldhunter is not.

§02

Do not quit out of a PvE death

Because Soul Form respawns you near where you fell, a monster death is a setback rather than an ending. Players who disconnect immediately after being killed by a boss are throwing away a run they could still have finished. Walk back, interact with your body, and continue.

§03

One unconfirmed way the walk back can fail

A reader reports reaching their own body in Soul Form and being offered the wrong interaction: another character had died on the same spot, and the only prompt available was to loot that character rather than to recover their own corpse, so the recovery stayed out of reach while the two overlapped. This is one private email — no public thread describes it, and this site has not reproduced it — so it is written here as a shape to recognise rather than a rule to plan around. It earns the space because the cost is lopsided: everything above tells you a monster death is recoverable, and this is the one report suggesting a case where the recovery step itself is what fails. The known issues tracker carries it with the same caveat.

§04

Teammate revives and the second life

Teammates can revive you directly, and the Withered Knight can even do it from range through its Polearm & Shield kit. In the demo build, a player with nobody able to revive them still got a second life by recovering their own body, with a second death ending their run while teammates continued. Treat the specifics as demo-era until confirmed in the live build, but the shape is consistent: death is staged, not instant.

§05

Play the pouch, not the bag

The safe pouch is the mechanic that should drive your risk decisions. Once the item that justified the run is in the pouch, your remaining bag is upside rather than something to defend. That is usually the moment to start moving toward a bell instead of one more loot zone.

§06

Why this matters for PvP specifically

If monsters cannot permanently take your run but players can, then every rule of thumb about noise, sightlines and third parties gets more important, and every rule about clearing PvE gets less scary. Fight monsters to learn. Avoid players until you choose the fight.

Mistfall Hunter Death: Lose, Keep, Revive FAQ

Only on a player kill. Monster and mist deaths put you into Soul Form, and you recover by returning to your body and interacting with it. Items in the safe pouch survive any death.
