Controller works, on every platform
Controller support is confirmed and cross-platform matchmaking is live, so a pad player on PC and a PS5 player queue together as the intended case rather than a workaround. There is no input-based matchmaking and no separate pool — you are in the same lobbies as keyboard players either way, which is what makes the next section the thing worth reading.
The one measurable cost is the loot race
Loot in this game is shared across the squad rather than instanced per player, so picking items up is a race against your own teammates as well as against the clock. Creators found controller input measurably slower at that race than keyboard and mouse. This is the only place the input device has a documented competitive cost, and it is a real one in trios.
- In trios on a pad, expect to lose contested pickups to keyboard squadmates.
- The practical fix is positional rather than mechanical: spread across the separated chests in a zone instead of stacking on one.
- It does not follow that controller is worse in a fight. Nothing published measures aim or dodge timing by input device, and this page will not invent that comparison.
The launch controller bugs are fixed
Three controller-specific problems shipped in the official launch Known Issues list and were all closed by the 30 July update. If you are reading a launch-week thread describing any of them as current, it is out of date — check your client version before treating them as live.

What is not published
There is no official recommended controller layout, no published deadzone or sensitivity guidance, and no default keybind chart from Bellring Games. Pages presenting a "best controller settings" table for this game are presenting someone's preference as a specification. When an official layout is published, it will appear here with the source attached.
