Patch 15 September 2026 update
Updated 2026-09-15

Mistfall Hunter Settings and Performance Guide

The four settings worth changing by name, every one of which ships in the wrong state — then readable attack tells, frame pacing, and the controller cost.

The short answer

Four settings ship set the wrong way. The rest is taste.

The Mistfall Hunter settings worth changing are four toggles that decide what the game reports to you, and every one of them ships wrong. After that it is readability over fidelity.

  • Four, all shipped wrong

    Toggles to flip

  • Readability over fidelity

    Everything else

  • Pacing, not count

    Frame target

Skill and talent names on this page come from creator guides recorded in the launch week. A few are transcription-sensitive and are being checked against the in-game text — where a name is uncertain we flag it inline instead of stating it as fact.

Four settings worth changing before your next run

Not a graphics preset list — these are the 4 toggles that change what the game tells you, and every one of them is wrong out of the box. Tick each one as you set it; the page remembers.

4 to apply

Smooth camera

On by defaultTurn off

It is mouse smoothing under another name. It blunts aim on ranged classes and makes any precise target harder to hold.

Auto-close inventory when taking damage

Off by defaultTurn on

Off by default, which means the game will leave you standing in a loot screen while someone hits you. This is the one that costs runs.

Show equipment comparison

Off by defaultTurn on

Puts what you are holding against what you are wearing, at the moment you are deciding whether a floor drop is worth a bag slot.

Client-side damage and hit prediction

On by defaultTurn off

Your machine guesses whether a hit landed before the server confirms it. Wrong guesses produce false hit feedback, visible desync and a little rubber-banding — it feels less responsive, not more.

A checklist rather than a table, because the reader is alt-tabbing between this page and a settings menu and the row has to survive being looked at twice. Ticks are stored in your own browser and never leave it. Rows, defaults and reasons are read out of the settings table below; all 4 recommendations are the opposite of the shipped default, which is the actual news here.

§01

Readability beats fidelity

Red anger attacks that break your block, telegraphed boss windups, the pulsing blue aura of a Returner Woodling seen through terrain — these are all visual reads that decide runs. Any setting that makes them harder to see is costing you loot no matter how good the screenshot looks.

  • Turn down heavy post-processing and effects that clutter the middle of the screen first.
  • Keep resolution high enough to read distant movement, since spotting a red-marked player early is the whole game.
  • Test changes in the training grounds rather than mid-run.
§02

Four toggles that change what the game tells you

Everything else on this page is about how the game looks and runs. These four are about what it reports to you, which is a different problem — and every one of them ships set the wrong way, so the table below is four flips rather than a shortlist to pick from. They are also the only settings anyone has published concrete names and defaults for, so they are the ones this page can actually be specific about.

  • The defaults and recommendations are one launch-build creator’s, captured on 3 August 2026. Nobody official has published a recommended settings list.
  • Hit prediction is the one worth changing first if you have been blaming the servers for hits that did not register.

§03

Frame pacing over frame count

The combat is Souls-adjacent, with parry windows and dodge timings that live or die on consistency. A stable 60 feels dramatically better than an average of 90 that stutters. The developers shipped extensive performance optimisation across all platforms in the pre-launch DevNote, and upscaling, frame generation and ray tracing options are present.

§04

Network stability is a gear-loss risk

Unlike most games, a connection spike here has a direct material cost — a desync on the way to a bell can end a run and everything in the bag with it. If your connection is unstable, that is worth fixing before you optimise graphics. Note that launch-week guidance on this topic came largely through sponsored creator content, so weigh product recommendations accordingly. The one free thing to try first is the prediction setting above: a chunk of what players describe as lag is the client being overruled after guessing wrong, not the connection itself.

§05

Controller works, but costs you loot

Controller support is confirmed and cross-platform matchmaking is live. There is a real caveat though: because loot is shared across the squad rather than instanced, grabbing items is a race, and creators found controller input measurably slower at it than keyboard and mouse. If you play trios on a controller, expect to lose contested pickups.

Mistfall Hunter Settings and Performance Guide FAQ

Yes, and cross-platform matchmaking is supported. The launch update also fixed several controller compatibility bugs. Keyboard and mouse remains faster for contested loot pickups because loot is shared.
