Skill and talent names on this page come from creator guides recorded in the launch week. A few are transcription-sensitive and are being checked against the in-game text — where a name is uncertain we flag it inline instead of stating it as fact.

Launch direction

Order

The seal shows which direction the 30 July launch update moved each class, taken from the patch notes — not a ranking, and not the current balance. Every balance pass since has moved classes again, and those are listed underneath it, dated, line by line. The classes guide has the full tier read and why letter grades go stale.

Mercenary

Frontline tank

The safest first pick in the game, and mid-tier at the competitive level.

Abilities live on your weapons, not your character

Every class carries two weapon stances at once and swaps between them mid-fight, and your skills are gated by whichever stance is active. That means each class is really two kits, and it also means the usual anxiety about picking wrong is misplaced — talents reset for free, and low-level class switching is free with a revert window. Pick by instinct and start extracting.

  • Two stances per class, swappable mid-fight.
  • Skills are tied to the weapon, so your stance choice is a build decision.
  • On top of stances sit talent trees and gem affixes for the deeper build crafting.

Roles below are the launch-build read. The stance column is what actually determines which skills you can slot.

§03

Which one should you actually pick

Short answer for the three cases people ask about: Mercenary if this is your first extraction game, Sorcerer if you want the highest damage ceiling and can hold spacing, support Seer if you are queuing trios with friends. The full ranking — split by solo, trio and duelling, with what the 30 July and 6 August notes moved and where the early lists disagree — lives on the tier list.

  • Nothing you pick is permanent: talents reset free and low-level class switching is free with a revert window.
  • A class is really two kits, because your skills are gated by the active weapon stance.
  • See the full ranking on the Mistfall Hunter tier list.

Mistfall Hunter Classes and Best Class FAQ

Sorcerer is the strongest overall at launch on raw damage and area control, but Mercenary is the best first class and support Seer is the closest thing to a mandatory trio pick. Because abilities sit on weapons rather than your character, trying a second class is cheap.
