What makes this more than a bare report is its neighbour: the same card puts the Ashen Cipher on the same desk, and Ashen-to-Sigrid is the one pairing on this whole subject that two press outlets established independently. A source that gets the checkable row right is worth more on the unchecked row beside it. It is still not proof, and the word printed on your copy still decides.

Open the cipher in camp or in your bag. It prints two clue words. 47 words are mapped across the seven camp NPCs below, and handing a cipher to the wrong one still pays the base result — the only thing at stake is the bonus.

The one reported pairing with a track record behind it
Every named-cipher pairing traces to one Spanish-language creator guide, which is a thin foundation and this site says so on each page. The Ancestral Cipher is the case where that source can be partly audited. Its Sigrid card carries two ciphers: Ancestral and Ashen. The Ashen row was already established before the video existed — allthings.how on 2 August and NerdsChalk on 3 August, independently, both naming Sigrid and both naming the Ripple Gem she adds. So on this one desk the guide can be checked against known-good data, and it agrees. That does not make Ancestral established; it makes the reporter more credible than an unaudited one.
Sigrid keeps the tavern, and the alchemy words are hers: Sealing Wax, Residual Heat, Acid, Malt, Sealed Cloves and Victory Wine.
Ashen Cipher to Sigrid is corroborated by two independent press outlets — the only cipher pairing that is.
"Ancestral" is not itself a clue word, so the pairing does not get the mechanical backing the Echo and Prayer Ciphers have.

The word on your copy still outranks the name
A credible reporter is not the same as your copy. Bellring's rule matches on the word clues the individual cipher carries, so two Ancestral Ciphers can owe their bonus to two different NPCs. Read yours before you spend it — the cipher is consumed on acceptance, and there is no second attempt.
The decoder takes both words in any order and shows which word produced the name.
If your copy prints an alchemy word — Sealing Wax, Residual Heat, Acid, Malt, Sealed Cloves, Victory Wine — the report and the rule agree and Sigrid is right.
Level 5 unlocks Decipher on all seven camp NPCs.

Malt Dregs, and a gap this site will not paper over
Search Console shows real traffic on "malt dregs cipher", which means copies are printing that pair. Malt is Sigrid's and is well sourced. Dregs is catalogued nowhere — no source assigns it to any NPC. The decoder handles this correctly by answering Sigrid off Malt and flagging Dregs as unrecognised, rather than inventing an owner for the second half. If you are holding a Malt Dregs copy, Sigrid is the answer, and the reason is Malt.

No reward table exists for it
Nothing has been published about what an Ancestral Cipher pays. Note carefully that the Ripple Gem is the Ashen Cipher's documented bonus, not this one's — the two ciphers share a desk and nothing else, and transferring a reward across that boundary is precisely the error that put the Golden Cipher's odds table under Ashen Cipher headings across the niche.

Where they come from, and keeping yours
Ciphers drop during ordinary runs from chests, marked enemies and unidentified items. That makes them replaceable and stealable in equal measure; the safe pouch is what decides which.

Unidentified items: every one of them has a chance to resolve into a cipher.

Including the one this page disagrees with. A claim you decline to repeat still has to be attributed, or the reader cannot check your reasoning.
The only source that pairs named ciphers to NPCs, reading each NPC's card off screen. The creator states plainly that not everything in it is confirmed and asks viewers to report corrections, so every pairing it establishes is graded reported, never official.
Official — that every cipher has one NPC who "truly knows how to decipher its secrets" and pays a bonus for it, and that the match is made per cipher rather than being cosmetic.
