§01

What it does

The premise

A top-five leaderboard player’s answer to the class’s structural problem: Blackarrow has the least mobility in a game overflowing with lunges, dashes and teleports, so the build treats Barbed Arrow as the button the whole fight hangs on — “if Barbed Arrow is not on a target, you pretty much lose the fight” — and spends every talent and affix on moving faster than the enemy while making them slower. The smallest channel on this site’s build list, and the deepest post-launch Blackarrow source anyone has published.

The loop

  1. Open by landing Barbed Arrow — a dash-shot applies the debuff at zero charge, so you do not need to win a charged-shot duel to start playing.
  2. Layer Bloodfly dots, then proc them: a Bloodfly followed by any other landed arrow triggers Blood Infection’s double crit. Alternating single Bloodflies with normal shots procs it repeatedly instead of once.
  3. Kite around a placed Spore Arrow; Pursuit Mark stacks slow whatever keeps chasing, up to three times.
  4. When their dodges and lunges are spent and the slow is stacked, they are standing still — that is when charged headshots land.
§02

Skills

Skill slots, and what is deliberately left out

  1. Barbed Arrow

“Your most important button.” Without it on the target there is no engage, no kiting and no punish. With Laceration, a marked target that dodges — up to four times — gets stunned.

  2. Bloodfly Arrow

The damage engine: a dot whose proc is the class’s burst. Expensive — “if you just blow all three and you don’t hit anything… you will pretty much have no energy for anything else besides only dodging.”

  3. Spore Arrow

The safe flex pick and the trio default: a placeable to kite around, block doorways with, and force damage through. “Just pick it if you’re unsure.”

  4. Paralysis Arrow

The brawl alternative to Spore for confident players: land it and stand in the melee’s face, spending i-frames aggressively instead of space.

  5. Impact Grenade

Utility, not damage — castable while being staggered, so it is the class’s manual breakaway: place it under your feet and detonate the melee chain off you.

  6. Scattershot

A deterrent for spacing, used after their dodge or a light stagger — never into super armour. He skips the wall-stun talent: “the stun is simply not long enough.”

  7. Sky Piercer

The trio pick, “no question about it”. In solos he is testing Shadow Step in its place for mid-fight repositioning.

§03

Talents

Talents in the creator's stated priority order

Listed in the order they recommend spending points, not in tree order — the first entries are the ones that change how the build functions rather than how hard it hits.

  1. Laceration

The one second-page talent taken, and the one that “makes or breaks the character” — it is what turns Barbed Arrow into crowd control.

  2. Blood Infection

Bloodfly plus any landed arrow triggers a double crit — “two red numbers”. His refinement: trigger it repeatedly by alternating single Bloodflies with normal shots rather than dumping all three dots for one proc.

  3. Pursuer

Quick shots reduce the target’s movement speed, keeping melees permanently slowed mid-fight — but it falls off if you miss.

  4. Chosen over Crippling Pain on explicit reasoning: lunges ignore movement-speed slows entirely, so a slow tied to Impact Grenade is “kind of a fake debuff”. Stacked on arrows you were landing anyway, it pays off exactly when their gap-closers are spent.

  5. Colossal Power
    Colossal Power11:00

Charging speed. In trios he would consider Full Draw beside it, for bigger Bloodfly dots.

§04

Affixes

Affixes to chase

  1. Aegis14:00

Core four, slot one. At level five the breakpoint grants defence penetration and physical resistance — the reason blues run it at five.

  2. Valor14:00

“Almost every class should have Valor at least five” for the defence penetration alone. Core four, slot two.

  3. Focused14:00

Core four, slot three: faster charged shots for the punish windows the rest of the build manufactures.

  4. Elusive14:30

Core four, slot four, and the class-specific one: Blackarrow is missing a dodge relative to other classes, and everyone else can take Elusive too — maxing it is how you keep pace with their dodge pool.

§05

Execution

The parts that are technique, not gear

Copying the talent tree gets you none of this. These are the patterns the creator demonstrates on camera.

The dash-shot opener 17:30

Dodging with an arrow equipped fires it instantly at zero charge. The 70 damage is irrelevant; the debuff is everything — dash-shot Barbed around a corner and the fight is enabled before the enemy knows it started.

Barbed Arrow as a ground trap 16:00

Barbed can be shot into the ground, and anyone walking over it takes the mark. Placed at a door or a corner a mage is edging around, it converts terrain into the engage you cannot force with your own mobility.

Dodge into the swing, not away from it 26:30

“Treat every single melee like a Dark Souls boss.” Watch the animation and i-frame through the attack toward them — dodging backwards feeds their lunge; dodging through them makes them turn, and a turning melee is not swinging.

Hold Breakaway for the third hit 28:00

Good melees do a one-two, stop, and wait for your Breakaway to roll-catch it. Sit in the stagger, watch for the third attack, and only then break — the example fight shows a Mercenary doing exactly this bait.

§06

Honest limits

What this build is bad at

A build page without this section is an advertisement.

  • Fewest dodges in the game and no movement skill — the entire build is compensation, and it still loses to a player who spends lunges patiently.
  • Energy-starved by design: Bloodfly spam without hits leaves nothing but dodges. Rapid Arrows is mostly a ranged-mirror luxury for the same reason.
  • Movement-speed slows do nothing against lunges — his own reasoning for Pursuit Mark cuts both ways.
  • The side-dodge momentum tech many Blackarrows lean on is a confirmed bug being patched, and he excludes it from the build’s value: “Black Arrow is going to feel really bad once this gets patched out.” This build is what remains after the patch.
  • Recorded at 1,221 views — the smallest source on this site. It is here for depth and the leaderboard placement, not reach.

Questions about this build

Rebrrth’s leaderboard setup runs Barbed Arrow, Bloodfly and Spore (or Paralysis for brawlers), with Impact Grenade and Scattershot as utility, Laceration and Blood Infection as the damage talents, and Aegis–Valor–Focused–Elusive as the affix core.
