Mistfall Hunter Shadow Cipher: Who To Give It

Reported to be Soekja's, beside the Seal Cipher. One source, no corroboration — so the travel word printed on your copy is what actually decides.

Short answer

One creator guide puts the Shadow Cipher on Soekja's desk — the raven who handles travel and roads — alongside the Seal Cipher. That is a single unconfirmed source, and "Shadow" appears in no NPC's vocabulary, so nothing corroborates it the way Echo's and Prayer's pairings are corroborated. If your copy prints Stone, Steps, Tides, Signpost, Supplies, Guidance or Return, the report and the official rule agree and Soekja is right. If it prints anything else, trust the word.

How you get it
From the loot table during a run — locked chests, purple-marked enemies and unidentified items. No launch-mail copy of this cipher has been announced.

Finish the answer

Read the word on your copy, then get the name

The bonus is matched on the word your cipher carries, not on which cipher it is — so the right NPC differs between two players holding the same one. Type what is printed on yours.

Both of them, in any order. Commas, slashes and “and” all work.

Try

Where are the words?

Open the cipher in camp or in your bag. It prints two clue words. 47 words are mapped across the seven camp NPCs below, and handing a cipher to the wrong one still pays the base result — the only thing at stake is the bonus.

Grading the claims on this page

A grade describes sourcing, not truth. An unverified row is not one we think is wrong — it is one nobody has stood behind.

  • OfficialEvery cipher has one NPC who "truly knows how to decipher its secrets" and pays a bonus for it.

Bellring Games, Golden Cipher event page, read 2026-08-07. A general rule, not a quirk of one cipher.

  • UnverifiedThe Shadow Cipher pays its bonus with Soekja, alongside the Seal Cipher.

Desorden (2026-08-09) prints both on the card headed Soekja. One creator compiling community reports, flagged as unconfirmed by the creator himself, with no clue-word overlap to corroborate it.

  • CorroboratedLevel 5 gates the Decipher option, all seven camp NPCs offer it, and the cipher is consumed on use.

    allthings.how (2026-08-02) and NerdsChalk (2026-08-03), independently.

  • UnverifiedEvery reward percentage circulating for this item.

No table has been published for it. The four-decimal figures in circulation are the Golden Cipher's, from the Gylden Rush event page.

§01

What supports this pairing, and what does not

Soekja is reported to hold two named ciphers, Seal and Shadow, and both rest on the same single card. Neither name is a clue word in anybody's vocabulary, which puts this cipher in the weaker of the two groups on this site: the pairing is a report and nothing else reaches it. That is not a reason to withhold the page — the report is real, it is the only one that exists, and the reader searching this term deserves to be told exactly how much it weighs rather than being handed either a confident guess or nothing.

  • Soekja is the raven and his desk is movement: Stone, Steps, Tides, Signpost and Supplies, plus Guidance and Return from the same guide.
  • The Seal Cipher is reported to the same desk — two ciphers, one vocabulary, one source.
  • Guidance and Return come from the creator guide alone; the first five were documented by two press outlets.
§02

The word on your copy is the address

With no name-word overlap to fall back on, the printed word is the only evidence about your particular copy. Bellring states the rule plainly: every cipher has one NPC who truly knows it, and the match is made on the word clues. Read yours, then deliver — the cipher is consumed when you accept the result.

  • The decoder takes both words in any order and shows the word behind its answer.
  • Level 5 unlocks Decipher on all seven camp NPCs.
  • A wrong delivery still pays the base amount; only the bonus is lost.
§03

No reward table exists for it

Nothing has been published about what a Shadow Cipher pays. The four-decimal percentages circulating under cipher headings are the Golden Cipher's, and press sources describe the correct-match bonus only as having a high chance of Epic rarity.

§04

Where they come from, and keeping yours

Ciphers drop in ordinary runs and are lootable off your corpse. Move one to the safe pouch as soon as it appears; that is the whole of the technique.

  • Locked chests, which are the most reliable placed source.
  • Marked enemies — the ones carrying a purple brand — and the containers they guard.
  • Unidentified items: every one of them has a chance to resolve into a cipher.

Shadow Cipher FAQ

One creator guide reports Soekja, the raven who handles travel and roads. It is a single unconfirmed source. Read the word printed on your copy — if it is Stone, Steps, Tides, Signpost, Supplies, Guidance or Return, Soekja is right for a reason better than the report.
