Mistfall Hunter Mercenary Hammer Build (Rank 1 Solo)
Mr Loony Lemon’s rank-1 Mercenary hammer build: Hammer Dash and Hammer Spin, the Resilient Body and Indomitable Will stacking loop, charge-cancel armour upkeep, and the Tenacious–Aegis–Stoic tank core.

What it does
The premise
The spec the tier lists put at the bottom of solo, played by the rank-1 Mercenary — and his own framing agrees with the lists: hammer is weak until it has gear, so the build starts as a PvE farming rat and only turns predator once the defensive affixes are on. Everything in it serves one trade: survive long enough to close, then land one enormous charged heavy. This is also the spec that inverts in trios, where our tier list has it at A.
The loop
- Until roughly level 12, farm PvE like a rat — mimic dust, door keys, kill bosses fast, bank gold and gear. Hammer is “incredibly strong at farming PvE” and weak at everything else without gear.
- To engage, chain the two dashes: Shield Dash for its after-dash movement speed, swap to hammer mid-run, Hammer Dash onto the target.
- Walk the map holding a charge and cancel it at full charge to keep Indomitable Will at ten stacks — 25% damage reduction before anyone touches you.
- In the fight: light attack, charge the heavy, dodge and reposition through the charge, and release the massive hit when they commit to a heal or get stuck.
Skills
Skill slots, and what is deliberately left out
- Hammer Dash?04:00
The one hammer skill he calls absolutely mandatory: it is the gap closer, and the punish when someone backs off “safe” to drink a heal — “hammer dash, boom, 200, 300”.
His flexible second slot, kept for when people are on top of him: cleave with super armour throughout, strong when cornered and in 1v2 ganks. He is explicit the slot is preference — “they all work fine”.
The shield is carried for exactly two skills, and this is the first: the dash grants increased movement speed for a few seconds afterwards, which is what lets the hammer actually reach people.
- Shield Slam?05:30
The second shield skill: an answer to chargers. Against another hammer mid-dash he slams to jump over them, lands behind, and starts his own charge while they recover.
Talents
Talents in the creator's stated priority order
Listed in the order they recommend spending points, not in tree order — the first entries are the ones that change how the build functions rather than how hard it hits.
The engine: a charge-type skill reaching its next phase grants two stacks of Indomitable Will, and getting hit grants one. He calls this and the mastery “absolutely necessary”.
Each stack is roughly 2.5% damage reduction, up to ten stacks for 25%. Kept topped up out of combat by charging and cancelling — see the techniques below.
- Hammer mastery (super armour on charge)?06:30
Super armour after a charge-type skill, plus damage reduction and magic resistance. It also wins super-armour clashes: the other side is stunned, you are not, and a dash into a light attack is the free follow-up — a heavy will not land there.
- Resilient Advance?07:00
Move and dodge while charging. This is what makes the charged heavy landable at all: light attack, hold the charge, dodge through their answer, release when they are stuck or healing.
- Hammer Dash distance and super armour?07:30
Two nodes up the hammer tree: longer dash range, and super armour during the dash so ranged classes cannot knock you out of your only gap closer mid-flight.
- Hammer Spin rotation speed?08:00
Faster rotation and turning during the spin, so it tracks a strafing target instead of cleaving air.
Affixes
Affixes to chase
- Tenacious08:30
One of his three core picks. The tank stack exists because “we need to close the gap and we need to eat as much damage as possible”.
- Aegis08:30
Core pick two of three, run in every variant he shows.
- Stoic08:30
Core pick three. Tenacious–Aegis–Stoic is the constant; the last two slots are the flexible ones.
- Valor08:30
“Just straight flat damage” — the standing fourth slot.
- Focused08:30
The fifth slot when leaning on charged attacks: faster charges and movement speed while charging. In his full purple set he swaps it for Swift.
- Swift08:30
The alternative fifth slot — a flat 20% movement speed, taken over Focused once the purple set is on.
Execution
The parts that are technique, not gear
Copying the talent tree gets you none of this. These are the patterns the creator demonstrates on camera.
Charge-cancel to keep ten stacks 06:00
Walk the map holding the heavy charge; the moment it fully charges, press F to cancel. The charge phase still grants its two Indomitable Will stacks, so you sit at ten stacks — 25% damage reduction — before an ambush ever starts.
The double dash engage 05:00
Shield Dash first, run on its movement-speed window, swap to hammer, Hammer Dash the rest of the way. One dash is escapable; the chain is how a hammer actually reaches a target that wants to leave.
Charged-attack mixups 01:30
Charging a light or heavy mid-string changes the move set entirely, and most opponents have never seen it. With Resilient Advance you dodge through the charge itself. His drill: training room, elite axe berserker, light attack → hold heavy → dodge twice through it → release.
Winning the clash 06:30
When both melees have super armour, the clash stuns them and not you — but only a dash into a light attack converts it. Anything heavier whiffs the window.
Honest limits
What this build is bad at
A build page without this section is an advertisement.
- Gear-gated: “quite weak without it”. The first hours are PvE farming, not duelling.
- Blackarrow is named the mortal enemy — freezes, Blood Fly arrows and utility make staying on one “very difficult”.
- A well-played Shadowstrix and a Seer’s slows are both bad matchups; his counterplay video was still unpublished at capture.
- Slow, and kiteable by anyone who respects the dash cooldowns — which is why every affix slot goes to eating damage.
- His own words: to be good with it, “you will need to die”. Solo is the hard mode; “spin to win in trios is great”.
