Patch 7 August 2026 update
Updated 2026-08-12

Is Mistfall Hunter Region Locked?

Yes, and not in the way most people assume: your Steam store country decides which client build you download, and a build can only see its own servers. A developer has acknowledged it on the Steam board.

Short answer

Yes. The lock is not a server picker you have failed to find — it is a split at the client level: your Steam store country decides which build you download, and a build only reaches its own servers. Two people on different builds usually cannot even find each other in a friend search, and there is no in-game way to switch. A Bellring staff account acknowledged the problem on the Steam board in the launch window and said they would try to find alternative solutions.

Where this is being asked · In the "REGION LOCK" thread on the Steam discussion board, opened in the launch window with the question "why would you make it so na and eu cant play together" and answered by a developer the same day. Thirty-one replies followed.

Can you two play together?

Region lock here is not about where you live — it is about which build your Steam store country gave you, and a build can only see its own servers. Pick both sides and the answer shows its working.

They play on

No — you are on different builds

A build only sees its own servers, so you will usually find each other unsearchable — and if the name does come up, the invite will not send. There is no in-game region switch, and progress does not carry across if you start again on the other side.

Their buildGlobal buildGermany server
  • Same build — you can party
  • Different build — you cannot

That the split exists is the developer’s own word: a Bellring staff account answered the REGION LOCK thread on the Steam board in the launch window, apologised, and said they would try to find alternative solutions. Which regions sit in which build is corroborated across independent write-ups rather than published, and the exact list of countries that receive the North American build is one nobody has sourced — so the checker asks you for a server region rather than pretending to know your Steam country. Summarises “Two builds, not five servers” below.

Evidence

The answer, broken into claims

A grade describes sourcing, not truth. Inferred means we concluded it and the reasoning is shown; unverified means someone asserted it and nobody stands behind it.

  • OfficialThe region split is real, and the developers consider it a problem they intend to address.

A Bellring staff account replying in the REGION LOCK thread on the Steam board, in the launch window: an apology, a statement that they will try to find alternative solutions, and a pointer to Discord support tickets.

  • CorroboratedThe gate is the client build rather than a server selector, and a build only reaches its own servers.

Consistent across independent launch-window write-ups, and consistent with the friend-search failure players describe in the developer-answered thread.

  • UnverifiedThe North American build covers the US, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, with everyone else on the Global build.

Repeated across secondary write-ups with no primary source behind it, which is why the checker on this page asks for a server region instead of a country.

  • InferredNothing in the game’s settings will change your region.

Our reading: no published source describes an in-game switch, and the developer reply offers a future alternative rather than pointing at an existing control.

§01

Two builds, not five servers

The mental model that makes this make sense is that there are not five servers you choose between — there are separate client builds, and each one can see a different set of servers. Your Steam store country decides which build you get at install time. That is why the problem shows up as a friend list failure rather than as a connection error: to a North American build, a player on the Global build is not on a distant server, they are effectively not there.

  • North American build — reaches the United States server.
  • Global build — reaches Germany, Singapore and Brazil, so a European and a Southeast Asian player can party with each other.
  • Mainland China runs its own separate version again.
  • Which countries land in which build is widely repeated but nobody has published it, so this page names server regions rather than a country list.
§02

What it looks like when you hit it

The failure is quiet, which is why people spend an evening assuming they typed the name wrong. Across the launch-window reports the pattern is the same: you search for each other and the name does not come up, or it comes up and the invite will not send. There is no error explaining why, because from the game’s point of view nothing has gone wrong.

  • Progress does not carry across. Starting again on the other side is starting again.
  • There is no in-game region switch, so nothing in the settings will fix it.
  • People in the thread speculated about VPNs, and nobody in it reported one working. Treat that as unresolved rather than as a workaround, and note that circumventing a region restriction is generally against a publisher’s terms.
§03

The developer has answered this one

This is the unusual part, and the reason this page can be more definite than most on this site. The REGION LOCK thread did not go unanswered: a Bellring staff account replied the same day, apologised for the inconvenience, said they would try to find alternative solutions, and pointed players at their Discord for support tickets. That is not a fix and it is not a date — but it is the developer confirming the behaviour is real and that they consider it a problem, which is more than the community had for most launch complaints.

§04

How this differs from the EU server question

These two get conflated constantly and they are different problems. The EU server question is about routing and latency — European players do reach European infrastructure, and the complaint is that the ping is unstable. This one is about reachability: a build cannot see servers outside its own group at all, no matter how good your connection is. If your friend list is the problem, you are on this page. If the ping is the problem, the other one is the one you want.

Expiry condition

What would have to change for this answer to be wrong

An answer about a live-service game without this is an answer with a hidden expiry date.

Bellring ships the alternative solution their staff reply referred to — a region transfer, a cross-build party system, or merged builds. The acknowledgement came with no date attached, so this answer holds until a patch note says otherwise.
