Three different things are called Stardust
This is the first thing to sort out, because the three have nothing to do with each other and the search results mix them freely. Only the second one is what this page is about.

The name the game uses is Watchtower
Community posts, and a good share of published guides, call this the Stardust Altar. The structure standing in camp is labelled the Watchtower, and the outfit’s own unlock condition points at that structure. Both names are in circulation and neither is wrong to say out loud — but if you are stood in camp looking for an altar, the building you want has a different sign on it. This site uses both names for exactly that reason.
The chain, one rung at a time
Four currencies stand between Soul Coins and the outfit, and each conversion is somewhere you can lose value. The refining step is the one that decides what the whole thing costs you.

What it actually costs
The published early rungs cost 1, 3 and 6 spindles, and the full ladder is estimated at six to ten. Nobody has posted the complete rung list, so treat the top of that range as the planning figure rather than the bottom. Run the numbers through the calculator above and the honest answer to "is this worth it" is that it depends on a dice roll you make several hundred times — at the unlucky end the chain costs an order of magnitude more than at the lucky end.
- The free Nectar sources — battle pass track, Journey milestones, Slumbering Contract milestones — are one-time or seasonal, and they do not add up to a spindle quickly.
- One outside estimate puts the full chase past 500 Nectar and 100,000 Soul Coins, which converts to a real-money figure in four digits. That is a single source’s arithmetic, not a published price.
- Nothing about the Watchtower is required for progression. This is a cosmetic chase with a cosmetic reward.
The one thing that makes it different
Stardust Genesis is reported to be visible to other players in a way the market outfits are not — the galaxy effect renders for enemies who see you, rather than only for you. If that is the reason you want it, it is the one thing no cheaper cosmetic route buys. What the cheaper routes cost is a separate question with a better answer than this page can give — outfit stock rotates and no official price list exists, so the skins guide lists only what a shop screen, an announcement or a dated article stands behind.
