Patch 7 August 2026 update
Updated 2026-08-12

Does Path of Glory Put You Against Better Players?

No. Enabling Path of Glory makes the game score your performance and move your MMR — it does not move you into a separate ranked queue. You meet the same mix of players either way, and leaving it off costs you a free blue and purple combat bag.

Short answer

No. Path of Glory judges how you play and adjusts your MMR; it does not put you in a separate queue or guarantee ranked opponents. You will still meet unranked players, bad players and good players — which means the toggle costs you nothing and pays a blue and a purple combat bag, so there is very little reason to leave it off.

Where this is being asked · By new players who read "ranked" and assume the same thing it means in a competitive shooter: a harder pool. It is the reason a free reward sits unclaimed on a lot of accounts.

Evidence

The answer, broken into claims

A grade describes sourcing, not truth. Inferred means we concluded it and the reasoning is shown; unverified means someone asserted it and nobody stands behind it.

  • CorroboratedPath of Glory is an opt-in performance rating rather than a separate matchmaking pool.

Two independent launch-window creator captures describing the same behaviour, consistent with the developer description of the system.

  • CorroboratedIt rewards a blue and a purple combat bag as limited seasonal rewards.

Named by MinMax Gaming on 3 August 2026 and consistent with EUTOPIA’s launch-window account of the rewards.

  • UnverifiedMatchmaking weighs equipment value even inside a single difficulty.

MinMax Gaming, 3 August 2026, presented as a personal observation and explicitly not official information.

§01

What the toggle actually changes

Enabling Path of Glory means the game evaluates your performance in a run and you gain or lose MMR on the result. That is the whole mechanism. It does not fork you into a ranked-only queue, and it does not promise that everyone you meet is also ranked — the lobby stays the same mix it was before you flipped it.

  • Declining it is not a way to avoid PvP either. The ranked layer is opt-in; the players are not.
  • It is a per-player toggle, so a squad does not have to agree on it.
§02

What leaving it off costs you

Path of Glory pays a blue and a purple combat bag as seasonal rewards. Combat bags are one of the harder things in the game to obtain — there are only three routes to them, and this is one — so a player who left the toggle off out of caution has quietly declined two free loadouts. Given the toggle does not change who you face, that is the real argument for turning it on.

  • The other two routes are the Destiny Map Store, which appears to reset weekly, and Scavenger Squad journeys.
  • Scavenger Squads are the only properly repeatable source, so the Path of Glory bags are worth taking when they are offered.
§03

The lobby thing you are probably noticing instead

If Chaos lobbies feel like they escalate as you gear up, the mechanism people report is not the ranked toggle — it is gear-based matchmaking, which appears to weigh what your equipment is worth even within one difficulty. Nobody official has described that system, so treat it as an observed pattern rather than a rule, but it is the more likely explanation for the effect players blame on Path of Glory.

Expiry condition

What would have to change for this answer to be wrong

An answer about a live-service game without this is an answer with a hidden expiry date.

Bellring Games introduced a genuine ranked queue, or changed how Path of Glory interacts with matchmaking. The current answer rests on developer descriptions of the system as opt-in and matchmaking-neutral; a patch note reversing that would reverse this page.
