Mistfall Hunter Ciphers and Deciphering

What ciphers are in Mistfall Hunter, where they drop, how deciphering works at camp, and which of the circulating reward-odds tables are actually published by the developers. Spoiler: none of them.

A cipher is a sealed item you hand to a camp NPC to open. Deciphering unlocks at level 5, any of the seven camp NPCs can do it, and the cipher is consumed either way — so the only decisions that matter are which NPC you hand it to and whether you are ready to spend it. This section states what is actually established, and flags the reward-odds tables circulating as fact that no developer has ever published.

§01

Decipher outcomes

What is established, and what is only claimed

Bellring Games has published no cipher drop rates. Everything marked unverified below is someone's assertion, shown with the name attached rather than repeated as fact.

  • OfficialDeciphering appears on camp NPCs once you reach level 5.
  • OfficialAll seven camp NPCs can decipher: Soekja, Dew, Pip, Dramm, Cazarro, Sigrid and Merimo.
  • OfficialThe cipher is consumed when you accept the result. There is no second attempt.
  • CorroboratedSigrid adds a Ripple Gem — to the Ashen Cipher specifically, not to deciphering in general.

allthings.how (2026-08-02) establishes the bonus; NerdsChalk (2026-08-03) establishes that it does not carry to the Abyssal Cipher.

  • Unverified“90.7761% chance of 450 Gyldenblod.”

Claimed by allthings.how, 2026-08-02. No publisher stands behind the figure.

  • Unverified“0.002% chance of a Lifetime Season Pass.”

Same table. Four decimal places with no source is a presentation of confidence, not a measurement.

§02

The only decision

Who to hand it to

Six of the seven are interchangeable. The table exists to show you that, so the one row that differs is impossible to miss.

Pipbase payoutbase payout
Drammbase payoutbase payout

Handing it to the wrong NPC does not waste the cipher — you still get the base payout. You simply do not get the gem.

§03

The ciphers

What each one is, and what to do with it

Ashen Cipher

Give it to Sigrid. All seven camp NPCs will decipher it and all of them pay the same base result, but Sigrid is the only one who adds a Ripple Gem — the forging material — on top. Handing it to anyone else costs you that gem and gains you nothing.

Abyssal Cipher

It deciphers into currency at camp, it is consumed on use, and no NPC choice improves it — Sigrid's Ripple Gem is an Ashen Cipher bonus. Its exact reward table has never been published, so treat any page quoting you percentages for it as unsourced.

§04

Supply

Where ciphers come from

Two routes: the launch mail, which expires, and the loot table, which does not.

One Ashen and one Abyssal Cipher are sitting in every player’s in-game mail as part of the second-wave launch reward. That copy has a deadline: log in before 2026-09-01 00:00 UTC+0 or it expires. It is a gift rather than the only supply, so missing it costs you two ciphers, not access to the system.

During a run, ciphers come from:

  • Locked chests, which are the most reliable placed source.
  • Marked enemies — the ones carrying a purple brand — and the containers they guard.
  • Unidentified items: every one of them has a chance to resolve into a cipher.

Securing one matters more than finding it. A cipher in your ordinary bag goes to whoever kills you on the way out, which is the argument for putting it in the safe pouch the moment it drops.

§05

Running now

Gylden Rush, until 10 August 2026, 23:59:59 UTC

Dated, because it ends — and a page describing a finished event as current is the failure this section exists to avoid.

A limited-time event in which collected ciphers feed a prize draw, with an Alienware gaming PC at the top of the board. It names two cipher types of its own — Ancestral and Mystic — which are event currency rather than the mail rewards, and it is the reason cipher drop rates are worth caring about this fortnight specifically.
