The headlines were wrong, and NVIDIA is the one who says so
On 30 July 2026 a wave of coverage ran the same story: GeForce NOW had added Mistfall Hunter alongside Halo: Campaign Evolved and six others. That story came from an announcement, not from a working service. NVIDIA's GFN Thursday post the following week is the document that settles it, and it settles it against itself — the game appears in the bulleted "Extra Joy From July" round-up of 15 titles, and then the very next paragraph reads "Mistfall Hunter didn't make it this month." Both lines are on the same page, a few centimetres apart. The receipt is below.
- The list and the retraction are in the same section of the same NVIDIA post, which is why the press got it wrong: the list is the part that looks quotable.
- One outlet hedged correctly at the time — TechPowerUp's headline said Mistfall Hunter and Corsair Cove "follow", i.e. later, rather than "added".
- The Steam request thread was still live on 31 July with players asking for the game, which is what an addition that never landed looks like from the player side.
A second GFN Thursday has now passed, and it still is not there
This is the part that dates fastest, so it carries its own check date: verified 17 August 2026. Two GFN Thursdays have now come and gone since the game shipped. The 6 August one is the official record and says outright that it "didn't make it this month". The 13 August one added nine titles and took the native Linux app out of beta, and Mistfall Hunter was not among them. Nothing since is an announcement of any kind — no date, no "coming soon", no developer statement. Players are reading it the same way: an r/GeForceNOW thread from mid-August is titled simply "Mistfall Hunter - currently no Plans", and a Steam board post three days after the second Thursday opens "it's been a week and the game still hasn't been released on GeForce Now."
- The 6 August NVIDIA post is the only official word and it is a negative one. Nothing has replaced it.
- Absence is not announced, so the second Thursday is evidenced by what shipped in it rather than by a statement — treat it as the weaker of the two claims here.
- A press headline naming the game is not evidence on its own. That is exactly how the 30 July wave went wrong, and the safe check is the GeForce NOW app's own library search rather than any article.
Where it does work
Cloud streaming for this game is not a dead end — it is a different service. Xbox Cloud Gaming carries it, and that route is unusually clean here because the game is on Game Pass from day one: an Ultimate subscription covers the licence and the streaming at once, with nothing else to buy. This is the same Microsoft-ecosystem exception that makes cross-progression work between Xbox and PC when it works nowhere else. A Steam copy does not carry across to it.
- Xbox Cloud Gaming — carried. Ultimate includes the game and the streaming; other tiers need you to own the Xbox copy.
- Boosteroid — listed as playable with a copy you already own, including the Steam one. Sourced to an availability tracker rather than to Boosteroid itself, so verify before subscribing.
- Amazon Luna — not carried, with no announcement from either company.
Why owning it on Steam does not help
The most common version of this question comes from someone who already bought the Steam copy and wants to play it on a machine that cannot run it. That is worth answering directly: on GeForce NOW, owning the game is necessary but never sufficient. The service streams only titles the publisher has onboarded, so an un-onboarded game cannot be launched no matter what is in your library. Boosteroid is the one bring-your-own-copy service on this list that is reported to carry it, and that report is a tracker's rather than the company's.
