Patch 7 August 2026 update
Updated 2026-08-12

Do You Need Blue Gear for Chaos in Mistfall Hunter?

No. Chaos asks for 800 Gyldenblod of total equipped value, not a rarity. A full green set that adds up to 800 clears it, and the number is displayed in the equipment hub above your gear.

Short answer

No. The requirement is a value, not a rarity: your equipped gear has to total at least 800 Gyldenblod. Green gear reaches that, and the current figure is shown in the equipment hub directly above your gear set — so the answer to "am I geared enough" is a number already on your screen.

Where this is being asked · By players who have read that Chaos is where the money is and assume the entry bar is a full blue or purple set. One launch-build creator spent their first day or so believing exactly that before checking the number.

Evidence

The answer, broken into claims

A grade describes sourcing, not truth. Inferred means we concluded it and the reasoning is shown; unverified means someone asserted it and nobody stands behind it.

  • CorroboratedHallowgrove Chaos requires equipped gear totalling at least 800 Gyldenblod, and rarity is not part of the rule.

Stated by two independent launch-window creator captures, and consistent with the in-game difficulty rules both read out.

  • UnverifiedChaos carries roughly three times the purples, legendaries and Holy items that Normal does.

MinMax Gaming, 3 August 2026, who explicitly presents the multiple as an impression rather than a measurement.

  • UnverifiedMatchmaking weighs the value of the gear you bring, even inside one difficulty.

MinMax Gaming, 3 August 2026, describing it as a noticeable pattern across their play time and not official information.

§01

The gate is a number, and it is on your screen

Each map and difficulty carries its own entry rule, and Hallowgrove Chaos states its rule as combined equipment value at or above 800 Gyldenblod. That is a sum, so it does not care how the value is distributed or what colour the pieces are. Look at the equipment hub: the current value sits directly above your gear set, and once it crosses 800 the Chaos queue opens.

  • Brandrgarde is gated the same way with different numbers — 300 for Normal, 2,500 for Cataclysm.
  • Hallowgrove Normal is the exception that works in reverse: it caps you at blue rather than requiring a floor.
§02

Why the cheap set is often the right one

Once you know the gate is 800, the interesting move is to clear it as cheaply as possible rather than as comfortably as possible. Chaos carries substantially more purples, legendaries and Holy items than Normal, so a green set worth 800 buys access to the better loot pool at a stake you can afford to lose. Safe-pocket the best finds, and a couple of epics has already covered the set.

  • If gear fear is what is keeping you on Normal, this is the answer to it: the entry set is meant to be expendable.
  • Weaker gear does make Mist Lords and elite enemies genuinely harder, so a cheap set pairs with a cautious route rather than an ambitious one.
§03

What the number does not buy you

Clearing 800 gets you into the queue. It does not get you a softer lobby. Matchmaking appears to weigh the value of what you bring, so entering Chaos in the minimum set is likely to put you among others doing the same — which is convenient if you are farming the outside of the map and a problem if you were expecting the gate to filter out danger. Nothing official describes this matchmaking, which is why it is graded as one creator’s observation below.

Expiry condition

What would have to change for this answer to be wrong

An answer about a live-service game without this is an answer with a hidden expiry date.

Bellring Games retuned the entry thresholds in a patch, or replaced the value gate with a rarity gate. The 800 figure is published in the in-game difficulty rules rather than in a patch note, so a change would show up in the equipment hub before it showed up in an announcement.
