Each map and difficulty carries its own entry rule, and Hallowgrove Chaos states its rule as combined equipment value at or above 800 Gyldenblod. That is a sum, so it does not care how the value is distributed or what colour the pieces are. Look at the equipment hub: the current value sits directly above your gear set, and once it crosses 800 the Chaos queue opens.
Brandrgarde is gated the same way with different numbers — 300 for Normal, 2,500 for Cataclysm.
Hallowgrove Normal is the exception that works in reverse: it caps you at blue rather than requiring a floor.

Why the cheap set is often the right one
Once you know the gate is 800, the interesting move is to clear it as cheaply as possible rather than as comfortably as possible.
