Mistfall Hunter Abyssal Cipher: What It Actually Gives

Deciphers at camp from level 5 and is consumed on use. It has no fixed NPC — the bonus follows the word on your copy — and the reward tables circulating for it are not published by Bellring.

Short answer

It deciphers into currency at camp and is consumed on use. The question "which NPC takes the Abyssal Cipher" has no answer, and that is not a gap in the research: the bonus is matched by the word your cipher carries, not by its name, so the right NPC differs between two players both holding an Abyssal Cipher. No reward table has been published for it either, so the percentages you have seen belong to the Golden Cipher.

How you get it
From in-game mail, alongside the Ashen Cipher, in the second-wave launch reward announced on 1 August 2026.

Finish the answer

Read the word on your copy, then get the name

The bonus is matched on the word your cipher carries, not on which cipher it is — so the right NPC differs between two players holding the same one. Type what is printed on yours.

Both of them, in any order. Commas, slashes and “and” all work.

Where are the words?

Open the cipher in camp or in your bag. It prints two clue words. 47 words are mapped across the seven camp NPCs below, and handing a cipher to the wrong one still pays the base result — the only thing at stake is the bonus.

Grading the claims on this page

A grade describes sourcing, not truth. An unverified row is not one we think is wrong — it is one nobody has stood behind.

  • OfficialPart of the second-wave mail bundle, under the same 2026-09-01 00:00 UTC+0 deadline.

  • CorroboratedLevel-5 gate, seven NPCs, consumed on use.

    NerdsChalk, 2026-08-03.

  • UnverifiedThat no NPC bonus applies to this cipher.

NerdsChalk (2026-08-03) asserts it, and it is the natural conclusion of looking for a type-level pairing that does not exist. The bonus is matched on the cipher's word instead, so this cipher has a correct NPC — it just differs between copies.

  • UnverifiedEvery percentage circulating for this item.

No table has been published for the Abyssal Cipher. The figures in circulation are the Golden Cipher's, reprinted under the wrong heading.

§01

What is established

The mechanics are simple and not in dispute. Deciphering appears on camp NPCs once you reach level 5. Any of the seven — Soekja, Dew, Pip, Dramm, Cazarro, Sigrid or Merimo — will open it. The result is currency, and the cipher is consumed when you accept, so accept only when you are ready to spend it.

§02

Why nobody could name its NPC

NerdsChalk reported that no NPC bonus applies to this cipher, while Bellring states the general rule that every cipher has one NPC who knows it. Both are explicable once the actual mechanic is in view: the match is made on the word the cipher carries, not on its name. So there is no Abyssal Cipher NPC to find. Anybody looking for one was asking a question the game does not answer, and concluding "no bonus" is what that search returns.

  • Read the word on your copy and hand it to the NPC who owns it. The lookup for all 41 words is on this page, directly under the short answer above.
  • An earlier version of this page said flatly that the NPC choice does not matter. It does — just not at the level of the cipher type.
§03

The odds table quoted for this cipher belongs to another one

A reward table circulates quoted to four decimal places: 90.7761% for 450 Gyldenblod at the common end, descending to 0.002% for a Lifetime Season Pass. Those figures are real and Bellring publishes them — for the Golden Cipher, on the Gylden Rush event page, alongside physical prizes like a gaming mouse that the Abyssal Cipher plainly does not award. Nothing has been published about what this cipher pays. A page printing the Golden table under an Abyssal heading is not quoting a source, it is borrowing one.

  • The full published table, with what it actually covers, is on the Golden Cipher page.
  • If a page shows you a percentage without naming which cipher it measured, that is the whole review.
§04

Where more come from once the mail is gone

The mail copy is a one-off, but ciphers are a normal part of the loot table, so this is not an item you get one shot at forever. Securing them matters more than finding them: a cipher in your ordinary bag is lost to whoever kills you, which is why Pip's pouch exists.

  • Locked chests, which are the most reliable placed source.
  • Marked enemies — the ones carrying a purple brand — and the containers they guard.
  • Unidentified items: every one of them has a chance to resolve into a cipher.
