Does Mistfall Hunter Have Duos? No — 2 Workarounds
Matchmaking is solo or trio only. Two friends can queue a trio with squad fill off and keep the three-mission rewards, and the community is loudly asking for a real duo queue.
No. Matchmaking is solo or trio only, with no duo queue and no announced plan for one. Two friends have exactly two options: queue trio with squad fill turned off — you keep all three mission-chest rewards but fight a player short — or use the recruitment hall to pick up a third before deploying.
Where this is being asked · Constantly, and loudly. On 8–9 August the Steam discussions front page carried at least four separate duo-mode threads within 24 hours — "This game need duo ASAP" reached 30 replies — with the recurring argument that trios with random fills are miserable and solo queue is a different game.
Evidence
The answer, broken into claims
A grade describes sourcing, not truth. Inferred means we concluded it and the reasoning is shown; unverified means someone asserted it and nobody stands behind it.
InferredThere is no duo queue: the matchmaking screen offers solo and trio only.
An absence cannot be sourced to a patch note; the queue screen itself is the evidence, and no official material mentions a duo queue.
CorroboratedTwo players can run a trio with squad fill off and still receive all three mission-chest rewards.
Stated independently across launch-week beginner guides; documented on this site since launch.
UnverifiedRandom trio fills are bad enough to make duos necessary.
The Steam threads’ shared premise — loud, recent, and a judgement rather than a fact.
§01
What two friends can actually do today
The queue screen offers solo and trio, nothing between. That leaves two real configurations for a pair, and one of them is better than most players realise.
Trio with squad fill off: you deploy as two against full trios. The compensation is that mission rewards do not shrink — the run still pays all three mission chests, which is why organised pairs treat the missing third as a price rather than a bug.
Recruitment hall: pick up a named third before deploying instead of gambling on fill. The players complaining loudest about random fills are the ones not using it.
What you cannot do: queue as a duo against other duos. Every pair conversation on the board eventually arrives at this wall.
§02
Why the demand is loud right now
The four threads in the sources below share one diagnosis: trio fill quality. A random third who loots separately, refuses to fight or disconnects converts a premade pair into a liability, and solo is a different game built around different specialisations — our tier list ranks the two queues separately for exactly that reason. A duo queue is the obvious middle and Bellring has not announced one; the roadmap through Season 1 names Brandrgarde Solo Mode as the only queue change in development.
§03
The population argument against it
The counter-position, raised inside the same threads: every extra queue splits matchmaking population, and this game already divides players across two maps, three difficulties and two queue types. A duo queue would multiply that again — which is the standard reason extraction games ship without one and add it only once population allows. Neither side of that argument has official standing; Bellring has simply not addressed duos in any published note through 9 August.
Expiry condition
What would have to change for this answer to be wrong
An answer about a live-service game without this is an answer with a hidden expiry date.
An official post announcing a duo queue, or any roadmap phase naming one. The nearest confirmed queue change is Brandrgarde Solo Mode targeted for mid-Season 1 in September — if that ships and duos are still absent, the silence itself is the answer holding.

Yes — queue trio with squad fill turned off. You fight a player short, but the run still pays all three mission chests. There is no dedicated two-player queue.
