What exists, what does not, and what is mistaken for it
A one-word answer is not worth a page, so here is the whole set. The first two rows are the settings people come looking for and do not find. The third is the thing being mistaken for a fix. The rest are options that genuinely change what you can see, which is what the field-of-view request is really about.
| Setting | State | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| An FOV slider | × | There is no field-of-view control in any menu, on PC or on either console. The third-person camera runs at a fixed field of view. |
| A camera distance setting | × | The other half of the same request, and it is not there either. How far back the camera sits is not adjustable. |
| “/fov 120” as a command | ? | It is not a command. Players started typing it into chat as a way of asking for the setting, it spread, and it became launch-week spam — one poster explained on the Steam board that this was the whole joke. Typing it does nothing except show everyone the message. |
| Resolution | ✓ | Keep it high enough to read distant movement. Spotting a red-marked player early is worth more than any camera angle would be. |
| Smooth camera, turned off | ✓ | Mouse smoothing under another name. Turning it off will not widen your view, but it makes the view you have go where you point it. |
| Post-processing, turned down | ✓ | The clutter in the middle of the screen is what actually hides attack tells. This is the setting that buys back visibility. |

Why the joke is the useful part
Several write-ups present "/fov 120" as if it were a hidden console command, which is how a request turns into misinformation. The poster who explained it on the Steam board was unambiguous: someone typed it in chat to ask for a slider, other players copied them, and the result was constant spam. Knowing that saves you from hunting a console that does not exist — and it is a reasonable proxy for how much the setting is wanted, because a feature request does not become a meme unless a lot of people want it.
Nothing official has been said
No patch note, DevNote or announcement has mentioned field of view in either direction. That is worth stating plainly, because an absence cannot be sourced to an announcement — nobody publishes a list of features a game does not have. What can be said is that the launch-window board carries the request and no reply to it, and that every write-up that has gone looking has come back with the same answer.
