Patch 7 August 2026 update
Updated 2026-08-12

Can You Play Mistfall Hunter Offline?

No. A badged developer reply on 30 July 2026 states the game is online-only and that all content, solo play included, needs an active internet connection. Solo is supported; offline is not, and the two get confused constantly.

Short answer

No. The game is online-only and a developer said so in as many words: every mode needs a live connection, solo included. You can play alone, but you cannot play disconnected — and a PvE mode is planned without a date, described by the same reply as taking "a considerable amount of time".

Where this is being asked · On the Steam board in the thread "You can play solo, but does that mean offline?", opened 30 July 2026 — launch day — and answered by a badged developer the same afternoon.

The receipt

Steam post by mistveil14 with a [developer] badge, dated 30 July, reading: the game is online-only — all content (including solo play) requires an active internet connection and does not support offline play.
mistveil14, carrying Steam’s [developer] badge, answering on launch day. Cropped to the sentence this page is titled for; the same reply’s two other answers — the PvE plan and the Oceanic servers — are quoted in full above. Steam — “You can play solo, but does that mean offline?”, captured 12 August 2026. Check the live page — it is the authority, not this crop.

Evidence

The answer, broken into claims

A grade describes sourcing, not truth. Inferred means we concluded it and the reasoning is shown; unverified means someone asserted it and nobody stands behind it.

  • OfficialThe game is online-only. All content, including solo play, requires an active internet connection and does not support offline play.

  • OfficialA PvE mode is planned but undated, and the developer describes it as taking a considerable amount of time.

    Same reply, same date.

  • OfficialThere is no commitment to Oceanic servers — only a statement that server distribution is monitored and that plans would come through official channels.

Same reply, answering the original poster's second question.

  • InferredBecause progression is account-side rather than stored locally, an outage or maintenance window makes the game unplayable rather than merely degraded.

Our conclusion from online-only status plus the account-bound progression the wipe and season pages document. No developer statement describes outage behaviour.

§01

This is not the solo question, and that is why it keeps getting the wrong answer

Two different questions share one set of words. "Can I play alone?" is answered yes — there is a solo queue and you can run the whole game without a party. "Can I play without an internet connection?" is answered no. Guides that answer the first question when someone asked the second are the reason this keeps circulating, and the distinction is not pedantry: a solo run still places you on a live map with other real hunters, so playing alone is a matchmaking choice while playing offline is not offered at all.

  • Solo is supported and is covered on the solo mode guide — that page is the one you want if the real question was "do I need a squad".
  • Offline is not supported in any mode, and no setting, launch flag or single-player toggle changes that.
  • The third thing people mean by this question is "is there PvE without other players", which is planned rather than shipped. See below.
§02

What the developer actually said

The reply is post #10 in the launch-day thread, from the account mistveil14 carrying Steam's [developer] badge, timestamped 30 July 2026. It is unusually direct for this niche — most platform answers about this game have to be assembled from patch notes — and it settles three separate questions in one paragraph, which is why it is reproduced below rather than paraphrased.

  • Offline: "the game is online-only — all content (including solo play) requires an active internet connection and does not support offline play."
  • PvE: "we do have plans for it in the future. This will take a considerable amount of time." No date, and the hedge is the developer's own.
  • Oceanic servers, which the original poster also asked about: "we continuously monitor player feedback and are committed to improving server distribution, but any specific plans will be announced via official channels" — an acknowledgement, not a commitment.
§03

What being online-only actually costs you

The practical consequences are worth stating plainly, because "always online" is an abstraction until a server has a bad night. Everything you own lives on the account rather than on your machine, so there is no local save to fall back on, and a maintenance window or an outage is a window in which the game cannot be played at all rather than one in which multiplayer is degraded.

Expiry condition

What would have to change for this answer to be wrong

An answer about a live-service game without this is an answer with a hidden expiry date.

Bellring Games ships the PvE mode the 30 July reply promised and makes any part of it playable without a connection, or publishes an offline or single-player mode outright. The reply attaches no date to PvE and describes it as taking considerable time, so treat any "offline mode confirmed" post that cites this reply as a misreading of it.
